USA "El Viernes Santo" Jay Dunn

Images from a faithful re-enactment of the "Via Dolorosa," or the "way of suffering" in Pilsen, one of Chicago's many Latino neighborhoods. Beginning at the Providence of God Parish with Pilate's condemnation of Christ, the procession and hundreds of accompanying witnesses mark the "Stations of the Cross," sometimes pausing for a few minutes to read, from the Bible, verses first in Spanish and then English.

This touching drama is played to the most authentic detail, culminating in Christ's crucifixion along with two other sinners atop a small hill in Harrison Park. There, before the crowds, and on a very cold April day, he is brought down off the cross, and carried once again to his entombment, marked with a service at nearby St. Adalbert's.
