I received an e-mail to be a contributor to an organization. What does this mean?
You are either a photographer, illustrator, or someone who is allowed to upload images to the organization. The invitation came explicitly from the administrator of the organization.

Do I have a PhotoShelter account if I've been invited?
Yes, when your are invited to an organization, a free PhotoShelter account is created for you. The e-mail that you receive from your organization's administrator contains a link that will allow you to set the password for your account.

What if I already have a PhotoShelter account?
If you already have a PhotoShelter account (free or subscriber), then that account will be linked to the organzation, thereby allowing you to upload to it.

How do I upload to the organization?

  • Click "My PhotoShelter" on the main PhotoShelter navigation.
  • Click "Upload to Org" on the sub navigation.
You can use the web interface to upload images one at a time, or download the PhotoShelter Uploader version 2.1 or greater. The Uploader is a stand-alone java application that runs on PC or Mac, and allows you to queue images for upload.

Do I need to resize my images before uploading?
No. In fact, it's preferable to upload the original file so that you'll never have to transfer the file again. PhotoShelter takes care of resizing the file to create a screen res and thumbnail version.

Do I need to caption the file?
You probably should, although your administrator should notify you of any standards. If you use any programs to annotate IPTC data, PhotoShelter will automatically extract the information from the file.

How do I upload through the web browser?

  1. If you belong to multiple organizations, select the destination organization.
  2. If you are not the photographer of the image, select the proper photographer. If the photographer is not available in the list, leave it blank.
  3. Enter a brief name that desribes the images (20 character limit).
  4. Select the images from your computer by clicking the "browse" button.
  5. Click "Upload Images"

How do I upload using the PhotoShelter the Uploader?
The PhotoShelter Uploader is a stand-alone Java application that runs on the PC and Mac. Users that have been designated as "Contributors" can use the Uploader to send images to the organization.

Use your e-mail and password to login to the Uploader. If you have a PhotoShelter Subscriber account, you will need to use the select list above the right window to pick the destination for your files. Otherwise, the Organization will appear pre-selected.

Contributors cannot see the contents of the Organization's archive. Instead, you can only see a single folder with your name. You can select files and/or folders from the left window, or drag and drop files and/or folders from your desktop.

Before the upload initiates, a popup window will appear where you will have an opportunity to select the Photographer (you, by default), and a brief description of the files you are uploading (20 characters max).

Can I view the images after I've uploaded them?
No. After the upload, only the organization's editors can view and bundle the images.
