Batch Actions

Overview

These Batch Tutorial refers to the Archive List format. NOT the "Archive Browser" batch action menu
Using the Batch Action menus in both your Archive List and your Galleries can simplify your workflow. Just select as many images you want to apply the batch action to (one, two, 3 hundred, 2 thousand) and click on the action.

Batch Actions available from your Archive

How do I select images?

You can select images one by one by clicking on the checkbox beneath each thumbnail, or you can use the "Select Viewable" or "Select All" links beneath the archive name. Also, you can select only tagged images

What's the difference between "Select Viewable" and "Select All"?

If you have 30 images in your archive, and have your "Images Per Page" set to 25, you will have two pages of images. Clicking "Select Viewable" on the first page, will only select 25 images. Clicking "Select Viewable" on the second page, will only select 5 images. Clicking "Select All" on either page will select 30 images.

Batch Action: Upload Images to archive

You can always upload more images to an archive by clicking this link. Uploading an image to your archives is the only operation that counts against your storage quota.

Batch Action: Copy to Gallery

A gallery is an arbitrary collection of images from one or many archives to show other people. Copying images to a Gallery does NOT count against your storage quota. For more explanation, click here.

From the "Copy to Gallery" pop-up window, you can either:

  • Select an existing Gallery, or
  • Create a new Gallery
You also have the option of redirecting to the Gallery when you're done, or staying on the archive. Clicking "Submit" will close the pop-up window, and refresh the parent window.

Batch Action: Delete Images

In the rare instance when you want to delete images from your archive, you can use this batch function. WARNING: DELETIONS ARE PERMANENT, and will remove the image from any galleries that it's copied to. The image will no longer be searchable or purchasable.

In order to delete images, you must confirm that you want to delete. Clicking "Submit" will close the pop-up window, and refresh the parent window.

Batch Action: Edit IPTC

IPTC information is the non-exposure related "meta-data" about the image. For example, caption and keywords are examples of IPTC info. Each IPTC field has a checkbox next to it. This allows you to specify which fields you want to update -- particularly useful, when you don't want to change any information from a particular field. If you enter information into a field, then move your cursor to a different field, PhotoShelter will automatically check mark the field for you. Remember, only fields that you check mark will be updated.

Clicking "Submit" update the fields on all the selected images and direct you to a "success" page. Click "Close Window" to close the pop-up window, and will NOT refresh the parent window.

Batch Action: Tag Images

Tagging an image is an easy way to choose "select" images. When you click "Tag Images," the pop-up window prompts you to either "tag" or "untag" the selected images. Tagging an image will put a small "T" next to the thumbnail. If you want to only view tagged images, you can click on the "TAGGED" button to the far left of the screen.

Batch Action: Price

In order to price an image, you have to first create a "Pricing Profile." Once you have done that, select the image(s) you want to price, then click "Price." You can select a print profile, and either a Royalty-Free OR Rights-Managed profile. Of course, if you only want to offer an image as a print, just select a print profile.

You will notice a checkbox that is pre-checked to make the images searchable as well. This is because pricing an image and making it publicly searchable are two different operations. Why? Because you might want to make an image searchable, but not use our online pricing mechanism. In this case, a photo buyer would contact you directly.

Images that have been priced appear with a "$" next to the thumbnail.

Batch Action: Make Publicly Searchable

In order to give the photographer total control, you have to select which images to make publicly searchable. Select the appropriate images, and click "Make Publicly Searchable." Select whether you want the images to be searchable or unsearchable.

It is possible to price an image without making it searchable. You probably don't want to do this. However, you could conceivably copy an image to a public gallery that is neither publicly searchable, nor priced. Structuring the system in this way, gives the photographer the ultimate control over their images.

Images that are publicly searchable appear with a small magnifying glass icon next to the thumbnail. Additionally, they have a light pink background for easy identification.

Batch Action: Rename

Don't like the way your camera named your images? You can use the Rename function to alter the prefix and numbering scheme of your images. Select the image(s) that you want to change, and click "Rename."

You can enter a prefix up to 30 characters long. For example, "Iraq" or "NBA2005," then enter a starting number. If you always want a 4-digit number, you can pad the number with zeroes. For example, "0001" instead of "1".

Batch Action: Move to Different Archive

You might want to move an Image to a different archive for organizational purposes. Select the appropriate image(s) and click "Move to Different archive." You can either select an existing archive, or create a new one.

Batch Action: Rotate

Unlike other image editing programs that only rotate the thumbnail (a very fast operation), PhotoShelter™ physically rotates the image in our database. Please be patient when rotating large numbers of images.
