Trusted Client Download
Overview
By designating a user as a Trusted Client, you are allowing them to download any content they can view. Once a Trusted Client logs into PhotoShelter, whether it's through the main site or your customized environment, they will be given high-res download access according to the largest size you've set for them.
Creating a Trusted Client
Trusted Client Download permissions are set through the Address Book. Your Address Book is auto-populated with everyone to whom you have ever sent a gallery or lightbox invite. You may also manually add users to your Address Book. Click here for more on the Address Book.
The "Trusted Client Download" column is where you set the download permission. By default, every user is set to "n/a," which means that they may only download images from galleries or lightboxes that you've specifically granted them access to. Once you change the permission to "Original file" or a JPEG conversion, that means that any image the client can see — whether it's in a gallery, lightbox, or found in search results — is downloadable to them up to the size indicated.
If you choose "Original file," the client will have the option to download the original you've uploaded to PhotoShelter. If your original is not a JPEG, we will not convert it to a JPEG upon download. However, if you choose "JPEG — original size," we will always convert to a JPEG at the largest size possible at the point of download. If you choose a smaller JPEG size, this means we'll always convert the JPEG to the selected size at the point of download.
Note: We always offer the client a choice of sizes where available, but only up to the largest size indicated. For example, if you select "JPEG — x-large (4800px)", and the client the image chooses to download is 9000px on its longest size, the largest size we'll offer is the x-large 4800px JPEG, but we'll also offer the large, medium, and small JPEG conversions in case they do not need that large of a file.
Please note that this does NOT give the Trusted Client access to everything in your archive, and the same security structure applies. They will only be able to download images you've made available to them, e.g. a public gallery, an invitation-only gallery you've invited them to, a password-protected gallery they have the password to, etc. If, for example, there's a password-protected gallery that the Trusted Cilent has not been issued the password to, he or she will not be able to access it for viewing or downloading. This Trusted Client Download only gives download access to images the client would already have been able to see.
Tracking Download Usage
Any download made by a Trusted Client (or anyone at all) is logged in your Image Statistics section. Downloads made by Trusted Clients are typically designated as "Hi-Res" in the "DL Type" section of your Image Statistics table. However, if they opt for a lo-res file, the download will be logged as lo-res. See more on Image Statistics.Tip: If you see that a client has download an image for a project you've discussed, try our Instant Sale feature to send them a one-off image rights-managed licensing invoice!
FAQ
How do my clients get a login to PhotoShelter? The most common way to issue a PhotoShelter login for your client is by inviting them to view a gallery. When you issue a gallery (or lightbox) invite to any non-PhotoShelter user, we automatically create an account for that person, and he or she is prompted to create a password when accessing the images you've sent. He or she may then use his/her email address and this password to log into PhotoShelter on an ongoing basis.
The other alternative is for your client to sign up on his or her own by sending them this link directly. If you want a new user to be a Trusted Client, you may manually add the name and email address to your Address Book with the appropriate download permission, and then whenever he or she signs up, the download permission will automatically be there for them.
What happens if I send a Trusted Client a gallery invite with different download permission than what they were assigned in the Address Book?
We always default to giving your clients the most generous of the download permissions you've given them. If, for example, you allow your client ongoing "JPEG — original size" permission, but then you send them a gallery invite that allows them to download the original TIFF, they will see the TIFF and all JPEG options when they attempt to download an image from that gallery.
