Gallery Collections

Overview

Gallery Collections are, as the name implies, a collection of galleries. More specifically, this feature allows you to group like galleries together under one header. When someone clicks on a gallery collection, s/he will see the list of galleries contained within it. For example, a wedding photographer might create a gallery collection entitled "Lopez Wedding" with several galleries:
  • Lopez Wedding
    • Rehearsal Dinner
    • Wedding Ceremony
    • Formal Portraits
    • Reception
    • The Morning After

How do I create a Gallery Collection?

  1. Go to "Gallery Collections" located under the "Galleries" tab.
  2. Enter a name and click "Create New Gallery Collection"
  3. Click on the newly created gallery collection
  4. Choose the galleries you'd like to add, either by typing in the gallery name or using the "browse all" link to pull up your full gallery list.

How do I change the display order of a Gallery Collection?

When viewing the gallery collection you can sort in the following ways. (Also please note the Forward/Reverse menu, which you can use to swap the direction of any sort order than custom.)
  • Date Modified
  • Date Created
  • Dated Added to Collection
  • Gallery Name
  • Gallery Date Modified
  • Custom Order

Gallery Collection Custom Sort

  1. Select "Custom Order" from the "Sort by:" drop-down menu.
  2. Click the "Edit Custom Order" link.
  3. Drag and drop the galleries into the desired sequence.
  4. Click "Save Order" to commit the change.

Gallery Collection Visibility & Inheritance

Like galleries, Gallery Collections has four visibility states:
  • Unpublished
  • Invite Only
  • Password
  • Public
It is important to note that the Gallery Collection visibility does NOT affect the contained galleries. Each gallery maintains its own visibility state. For example, the "Wedding Ceremony" gallery could be "public," while the "Rehearsal Dinner" requires a password.

This allows you, for example, to set a password on the Gallery Collection, but leave the contained galleries "Public, not listed." A typical use case would be:

  • Photographer creates "Lopez Wedding" Gallery collection with (5) galleries
  • Photographer sets Gallery Collection to "password" and sets password to "crystal"
  • Photographer sets enclosed galleries to "Public, not listed"
  • User goes to Photographers webpage, and clicks on "Lopez Wedding"
  • User is prompted to enter a password to access the galleries
  • User enters password, and see the five galleries
If the user distributed the URL for each gallery, people would be able to access the galleries without a password because they are "public," however, you do prevent the casual browser from viewing the galleries.

FAQs

Can I make a Gallery Collection inside of another gallery collection?

No, currently you can ony nest galleries one level deep.

How many Gallery Collections can I make?

Unlimited, just like the number of galleries and archive folders you can create.

Does the visibility of my Gallery Collection affect the visibility of the galleries within it?

Bottom line: If any of your galleries are marked Unpublished, they will not be viewable to the public. So, for example, if your gallery collection is marked INVITE-ONLY, but has private galleries within it, your invitees will not be able to view the galleries.

Can I include a gallery in more than one gallery collection?

Yes! You may cross-list galleries across an unlimited number of gallery collections. (Please note that there was a brief period during June-July 2010 during which this functionality was disabled, but the original cross-listing functionality has been restored.)
