- NEW FEATURES
- Filmstrip option on single image view, which allows your site's visitors to quickly and easily scroll through other images in your gallery or search results without returning to the full thumbnail view.
- Choose to disable our default Image Theft Guard so your buyers can quickly save images to their desktops via "right click" or by dragging and dropping.
- Your Gallery Slideshow page is now iPhone and iPad-friendly! Visit thumbnails, click "View Slideshow," and choose a transition style to show off your galleries on the go.
- Your website's Contact Form is now its own page on your website, free to be customized and with your branding automatically applied. The "Contact" link may be added to the navigation and/or footer of any theme.
- New metadata options for your gallery thumbnail images. Previously limited to displaying the filename only under your thumbnails, you can now add your headline, description, or title. More control for you, as well as better SEO!
- More image size flexibility. You now define the size of your homepage's featured images separately from the size of the images on your gallery and search results pages. This affords you more visual control over your homepage without compromising image size elsewhere on your site.
- New "List Public Galleries w/Image" option for your Search Results Image Display page allows you to show a list of the galleries in which your image is contained. This is good for both human visitors and search engine crawlers, who will have more opportunities to discover and index your content.
-
USER EXPERIENCE
- Invitations use your site name instead of your first and last name. For those of you splitting our company name into the first and last name fields, this should alleviate any references to only the first half of your company name! Similarly, messages sent through the forum, Customer Carts, and Transfer History will always display your full name.
- Filename and .jpg added to image URLs. Another win for image-level SEO, the direct link to the image file now includes the filename and extension in the URL, which helps crawlers understand more about the image they've discovered.
- The Archive Browser now supports displaying up to 250 thumbnails at a time.
June 10, 2010
- NEW FEATURES
- Customizable websites for all! All Basic and Starter accounts now have access to our configurable page templates and suite of customization tools, outfitted with...
- ...our new Maui theme, complete a choice of styles. Maui is available to all account types.
- In a nod to your creativity and diverse needs, we've added support for two custom pages that you may enable as needed to supplement your existing page templates.
- Don't know HTML? No problem! Our custom pages, "About" page, and other areas of your themes now automatically format your text for HTML. (Full, custom HTML still supported, too.)
- We've added a new "Gallery Slideshow Display" page template, therefore allowing you to customize the slideshow that your visitors see when they click "view slideshow" from your gallery thumbnails.
- Upload your website logo. No need to source your logo from a third party image host -- upload, save, and preview within your PhotoShelter account.
- Save vertical space with our streamlined IPTC Keyword Display option. Now, image keywords can be displayed as a comma-delimited list, linked to searches for that term, instead of vertically and represented by checkboxes.
- We've added RSS support to your gallery collections, enabling your visitors to "subscribe" to a given collection. For tech whizzes, this presents an opportunity for creatively displaying a group of galleries.
- The homepage has been spruced up to include a page dedicated to photo buyers. This gives a more prominent home to featured photographers, channels buyer activity, and provides another conduit for you to get found.
- USER EXPERIENCE UPDATES
- No more PhotoShelter-branded pages of your content. To keep your brand first and foremost, we've retired the standardized PhotoShelter look & feel that previously existed for all web pages. This addresses a frequent source of confusion as well as provides an SEO benefit (removing duplicate content from search engines).
- Nicer URLs. To improve your brand presence within your site address, your site URL is moving to a "subdomain" (also known as hostname) format: http://yourname.photoshelter.com. Also, we've removed excess characters from your gallery URLs. When your visitors page through a gallery and copy the link to a single image, it will no longer include the lengthy (and unsightly) data. Please note that old links will still work and will redirect to their new versions.
- In an effort to improve your content's visibility within Google Images, we've upgraded user sitemaps to comply with Google's newly released protocol for Image Search. For those of you using a custom domain for your PhotoShelter pages, your sitemap will now observe your domain where possible, increasing the likelihood your custom URLs will appear in search results. (Power users, also note that public but unlisted gallery URLs also appear in your sitemap if they are contained within a public gallery collection.)
- Uber-simplified workflow for matching your site to your Graph Paper Press blog. No more copying and pasting, converting to manual, etc. -- simply plug your blog URL into your PhotoShelter account and call it a day! Full tutorial here.
- Simplified navigation of the "My Website" section of your account, which combines like pages and presents website customization options more intuitively.
- It's now easier than ever to shop for the theme that suits you best -- your website settings are now preserved across themes, so you won't need to reinvent the wheel when trying out different looks.
- Streamlined gallery management interface. Cleaner design, elimination of pop-up windows, and more relevant data display.
- Featured galleries -- now called "Large Featured Galleries" and "Small Featured Galleries" -- can be designated from the gallery list page, from the gallery itself, or from the "My Homepage" website page customizer.
- We've replaced your "My Bio" text field with a pure HTML field to enable you to add images, hyperlinks, and more. Your existing bios have been copied over to the new format.
- To improve clarity, "private" galleries are now referred to as "unpublished". This is a terminology change only.
- POLICY CHANGES
- As part of our sitemap improvement (see above under "New Features"), we suggest that you remove any existing sitemaps from your Google Webmaster account. We now automatically submit and validate sitemaps on your behalf, so there's no need to submit yours separately.
- To prepare for an eventual shift to a nested gallery structure, galleries may no longer be added to more than one gallery collection. We've added a one-click mechanism to easily duplicate galleries when attempting to add to a second collection. Any galleries currently included in more than one collection can remain as such until further notice.

- NEW FEATURES
- The Refer-a-Friend program rewards you for sending your friends our way: an account credit for you, a signup discount for them. Hand out your code, email your friends with your personalized referral link, or add a snazzy badge to your website or blog. Learn more.

- POLICY CHANGES
- We've updated our Terms & Conditions to include the new Refer-a-Friend rules & restrictions. Don't worry - there shouldn't be any surprises in the fine print, but as always, we encourage you to read the full policy to be aware of the program's nuances.
February 2, 2010
- NEW FEATURES
- Hurray! Coupons are here. Define a coupon code, hand it out to your clients, and watch your sales roll in. You may issue discounts by dollar amount or percentage, and you can set an order minimum so you can ensure you don't get burned on smaller-dollar orders. Get the full lowdown.
- Our integration with print partner AdoramaPix is open for business! Now, in all of your print pricing profiles, you'll be able to set prices on any Adorama print product & finish, including the popular metallic and black & white options.
- We have upgraded our rights-managed licensing module to automatically calculate the regional variances suggested by fotoQuote software. For example, worldwide licensing will automatically be double the default rate, whereas Canadian licenses will automatically be marked down 10% of the default. Important: If you have manually marked up/down your prices by region, please check your existing RM profiles to make sure you're happy with the new auto-generated prices.
- Backprinting - adding a custom message to the back of your prints - is now available for your EZ Prints orders, too.
- USER EXPERIENCE
- You will now be notified by email if Exposure Manager or EZ Prints ever has trouble charging your credit card on file for fulfillment costs. This should help prevent unneeded printing delays.
- Annual Basic, Standard, and Pro subscribers will now be notified by email 30 days in advance of automatic subscription renewal.
- POLICY CHANGES
- The fees for production & shipping of AdoramaPix orders will be charged to your PhotoShelter account alongside the order's transaction fee. This is different from the relationships with EZ Prints and Exposure Manager, both of which will continue to charge your Sales Configuration credit card directly for wholesale costs.
December 17, 2009
- NEW FEATURES
- New partners, ExposureManager & AdoramaPix, for automated print and product sales. We are integrating two new partners to give you more choice in the labs you use to sell prints and products. ExposureManager will be fully integrated starting 12/17/2009, and we are targeting the following week to launch with AdoramaPix. Setting up sales through the new partners, plus our existing partner EZprints, will be available in your pricing profiles.
- Sell automated prints & products, and self-fulfill in multiple currencies. Previously, you were only able to transact with $USD if selling through our automated fulfillment partner EZprints. Now you may transact with your customers in up to 16 currencies - USD, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, New Zealand Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Euros, British Pound Sterling, Swiss Franc, Swedish Krona, Norwegian Krone, Danish Krone, Polish Zloty, Hungarian Forint, Czech Koruna, Japanese Yen. You can set this in your sales configuration.
- Upgraded Rights Managed pricing calculator to fotoQuote 6. Our partner, Cradoc fotoSoftware, recently updated their industry standard pricing calculator for licensing Rights Managed photography. We have upgraded the PhotoShelter/fotoQuote integration accordingly. With these changes, you'll find simpler usage groupings, regional bundling, geographical variance for pricing, and a buyer-selectable start date. You can review the changes in your pricing profiles.
- Enhanced tax handling . You may now apply taxes to all types of customer orders. In addition, PhotoShelter now supports VAT regulations as well. You can manually enter tax rates by region. You may also opt to require a customer's shipping address for download purchases to determine appropriate taxes.
- USER EXPERIENCE
- Streamlined sales setup. We have combined the sales configuration and sales preferences into one process to simplify sales configuration.
- Design updates to shopping cart checkout interface. Your customers will experience subtle design changes to facilitate checkout. We anticipate additional design and usability enhancements here.
- Simplified shipping setup. You may now define shipping methods and zones at the per-product level, and you may elegantly combine shipping rates for multiple items of varying size. This makes it easier to offer your customers simple rates for combining images when you self-fulfill prints and products.
- Reorganized "My Sales". We made small organizational changes to present the sales history data more logically.
- Streamlined, more intuitive Paypal processing. For members selling via Paypal, visitors will now be taken directly to Paypal for payment, rather than opening a pop-up window. This change was implemented to prevent lost sales due to pop-up blockers. In addition, full line item data will be listed in PayPal to provide more detail on the transaction, rather than simply the sum total.
- Rights managed instant sale feature now uses fotoQuote. Instant sales negotiated independently can now be transacted through the normal cart process.
- Display seller address on invoice. You may now choose to display your address on invoices to customers in your sales configuration.
- Cropping override. If you enable cropping of images, you now have the option to override user cropping prior to sending images to the print vendor when you review orders that are "Pending Approval."
- Canadian provinces added to dropdown menus. We've eliminated the free-form text option for province, and added all provinces to US States in all dropdown areas.
- Help pages pertaining to e-commerce have been re-written and re-organized.
- POLICY CHANGES
- Transaction fees on self-fulfilled orders. Self-fulfilled transaction fees were previously charged when the photographer marked an open order as "closed." Going forward, transaction fees will be billed with the member's next monthly billing statement.
