Instant Sale

Overview

The Instant Sale option allows you to select a single image from your archive, affix a license and price, collect payment online, and have an automated delivery to your client. This is a good option for one-off sales that might be negotiated offline.

Creating an Instant Sale

  • Click "Archive"
  • Click a folder
  • Click on the specific image you want to license
  • Click "Price -> Instant Sale" from the menu above the thumbnail display, or if viewing the larger screen resolution image, click "Price -> Instant Sale" from the available icons above the image

A pop-up dialog box will appear.

If you are licensing the image as a rights-managed usage, you can click the "fotoQuote lookup" button to run through a pricing calculator. This will generate the "retail price" for the image, and provide you with usage language.

Alternately, you can put whatever licensing terms into the image that you'd like. For example, you might choose to license the image for electronic personal use, or even as a royalty-free image. Whatever you enter into the "Usage Terms" box will be affixed to the image.

Enter a price that you will sell the image for.

If the image is not a JPG, and you want the buyer to have access to the original file format (e.g. RAW, TIF, PSD), then check the "Use original file type" checkbox.

Since downloads don't explicitly require address information, you can require. If you intend to invoice and charge the sale outside of PhotoShelter, you can allow the user to simply agree to the terms and conditions of the license, and download without paying. Note: You will still be assessed a transaction fee for this sale.

You need to either select a known e-mail from your address book or enter an e-mail to dispatch the sale information to. The e-mail will contain a link to a shopping cart from which the buyer can purchase the image by entering thei their billing information, then receive download instructions.

What does the buyer see?

The buyer receives a sales invoice via e-mail which includes:
  • The image file name
  • The licensing information
  • The price
  • A link to the payment page

If the user doesn't have an account on your website, they will be prompted to create a password so that they can come back later and review orders, download files, etc.

Clicking on the link will take them to their free PhotoShelter account where they will be prompted to enter their billing information to complete the transaction.

The user will be prompted through a normal cart checkout process.

After a transaction has been completed, PhotoShelter retrieves the appropriate file(s) from its database and creates a ZIP file that is delivered to the buyer. This ZIP file includes:

  • Image (format depends on the preferences you set)
  • XMP Sidecar with usage rights
  • Text file with usage rights
The usage rights are also embedded as IPTC data if the file is delivered as a JPG. The usage rights are included in multiple flavors to ensure that there is no ambiguity regarding the legal license attached with the purchased images. For example:
Usage rights agreed upon for this image are: United States, Advertorial.Print.Magazine, 1/2 Page, Up to 5,000 ** Licensed to Joe Smith / Joe's Design Co. **
PhotoShelter allows the purchaser to download the images for up to 10 days, after which they will have to contact you if they need to retrieve the image again.
