Union Army General "Little Mac" George B. McClellan on horseback. Harper's Weekly newspaper  Cover January 25, 1862. He later ran as the Democratic candidate for president in 1864 against Republican President Lincoln's second term.  He was popular in the early days of the Civil War, but was relieved of his command when he failed to act aggressively in the Peninsula Campaign, losing any chance to end the war in 1862 or 1863.
