Bio
Andrew Hillard is a UK photographer currently based in Bratislava, Slovakia.
After studying graphic design and then photography he graduated from KIAD (The Kent Institute of Art and Design). He freelanced for I.D. N.M.E and Scotland on Sunday magazines.
Since moving to Slovakia he has been working on a long-term project entitled Neighborhoods, which documents the impact of capitalism and rising consumerism on the small communities in this post communist countries capital city.
The focus of the project is on people the places where they live and their memories.
In 2005 a selection of this project about
the lives of young artists from the underground music scene was exhibited at Galeria Parnas in Bratislava.
In 2006 a selection from an offshoot of the project entitled Heavy Metal Lifestyle which documents the life of a 66-year-old man who lives in a field on the edge of the city and makes his living sifting through the cities debris recycling scrap metal was published in the book Story Annual by Humble NYC and exhibited at the 3rd Ward gallery in Brooklyn New York. A selection of the Neighborhoods project was published in the January 2007 edition of the Chinese magazine Vision.
