The focus of Roderick's photography is two-fold: Nature and macro photography. Roderick is deeply driven to capture the rich beauty and intricacy, through the rich colors of nature. A passionate person, he first became consumed with nature photography while living in western Canada. During his stay in Alberta, he became inspired by the granduer of foothill and Rocky Mountain landscapes. Roderick’s mentors are Fred Perrin and Ansel Adams, and those influences can definitely be seen in his photographs. Although the main focus has been in western Canada, Roderick has traveled throughout western Europe and touched the four corners of North America, from Alaska to Florida. Roderick uses camera formats ranging from 35mm to 4x5 large format, and is now using the latest in professional digital camera technology.
Roderick is outNbout every chance he gets and likes to shoot during the early morning and late afternoon when the light is warm and soft. Photographs taken within an hour after sunrise and before sunset, know as the the “sun's paintbrush”, inspire photographs of great emotional depth. “I just make it a priority to shoot at times when the light is most dramatic”. Over the past number of years he has started to study the smaller aspects of nature using a variety of macro and close-up lenses. “You don't have to look far to see God's visual blessings when shooting close-ups”, he says.
Roderick resides in St Paul, MN where he captures the subtle beauty of the mid-west and the mighty Mississippi River.
