  • Terran Bragdon stands for a portrait in North Naples on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011. Elected to the Maine state legislature at age 21, Bragdon became the youngest legislator in his state. He served two terms before an incoming governor picked him to lead his transition. Now 35, Bragdon has started a conservative public policy think tank, the Foundation for Government Accountability, and moved with his wife and four children to Ave Maria earlier this year.   • Josef Spinski, my grandfather, escaped Nazi persecution and fled to the United States with his family during WWII. A wealthy businessman in Poland, my grandfather lost his fortune as he fled the Nazis. Upon settling in Kansas, he worked odd jobs and on a highway crew for decades before moving in with us in his final years. This photograph was taken in the winter of 2006, he was 99-years-old. This was the last time I saw him alive.
