  • Calligraphy Brushes at Liulichang Market - The Liulichang is a famous district in Beijing that is known for its traditional Chinese architecture and also its antique market that sells various craftwork, artistry, calligraphy, inkstones and antiques. Its name Liulichang came from during the time of Ming Dynasty when a colored glaze factory produced glazed tiles for the palaces and temples in the city.   Liulichang was a favorite haunt for scholars, painters and calligraphers who gathered there to write and purchase books, as well as to paint and compose poetry but continues to thrive as a market aimed at tourists.

  • Traveller's Tree or Travellers Palm is a species of banana plant though not a true palm but a member of the bird-of-paradise family.  It is called the travellers palm because the stems hold rainwater that can be used as an emergency source of water.

  • Tai Chi at Singapore Botanic Gardens - The first Botanical and Experimental Garden in Singapore was established in 1822 by Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore and a keen naturalist. The Garden's main task was to evaluate for cultivation, crops which were of potential economic importance, including those yielding fruits, vegetables, spices and other raw materials.  The present Singapore Botanic Gardens began in 1859, when the Agri Horticultural Society was granted land in Tanglin by the colonial government.

  • A Kora is both a type of pilgrimage and meditation following Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The Kora is performed by walking around a temple, stupa, or other sacred site in a clockwise fashion and is often performed 108 times.  Kora many be performed while spinning prayer wheels, chanting mantra or repeatedly prostrating oneself. A kora functions as a calming meditative exercise.

  • Cambodian Shadow Puppet Theatre  dates back over a thousand years. The narrator of the story also directs the orchestra while the puppeteers remain silent throughout the performance. It is one of the most loved art forms in Cambodia.

  • Khmer classical dance, the indigenous ballet-like performance art of Cambodia, is frequently called "Apsara Dance." This appellation reflects the belief that the Khmer classical dance of today is connected by an unbroken tradition to the dance practiced in the courts of the Angkorian monarchs, which in turn drew its inspiration from the mythological court of the gods and from its celestial dancers, the Apsaras.

  • Unlike most Angkori temples, Ta Prohm has been left in similar conditions in which it was found - the atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors. Spending time on the junk, you’ll not only savor a unique feeling in a world of wonder but also enjoy such activities as photography, fishing, kayaking, and even on-board cooking classes.  Not to mention the UNESCO World Heritage views of Halong Bay itself.

  • Rose Vendor -One of the most enduring images of Hanoi is that of its ubiquitous vendors peddling bushels of fresh roses and other items from the back of a bicycle or baskets balanced on bamboo shoulder poles, fresh fruit or flowers are very much part of Hanoi's scene.

  • A wide variety of "costume play" getups  from Japanese manga, anime,  imitations of favorite pop stars or combinations in between can be witnessed very Sunday in Harajuku, Tokyo's fashion quarter. Casual observers believe that cosplay is a reaction to  rigid rules of Japanese society but since so many cosplayers congregate in Harajuku and Aoyama - Tokyo headquarters of Fendi, Hanae Mori and Issey Miyake, others consider it is a reaction to high fashion. Whatever the reason cosplay aficionados put a tremendous amount of effort into their costumes every Sunday. You can't help but wonder what they wear on Monday morning..

  • Spiral Incense Coils, Thien Hau Pagoda -  An incense coil is made entirely of incense and called this because they are shaped into a spiral instead of a straight stick shape and can burn for many hours. There are many forms of  incense and its use and formulation is strongly tied to traditional Chinese medicine and are still referred today as "fragrant medicines". The use of incense has long been as much for healthy well being as religious purposes.

Hmong groups began a gradual southward migration from China due to unrest and to find more arable land - as a result  Hmong now live in several countries in Southeast Asia including Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Burma.  There are various types of Hmong throughout Southeast Asia, including the Flower Hmong shown here, named after the styles of their clothing and costumes.

  • The population of Nepal is a mosaic of diverse ethnic groups lncluding the Thakali, Tamangs, Newar, Sherpa, Tibetans and Gurung. In other words, the country is meeting place of Indo-Aryan peoples from the Indian subcontinent and the Mongoliod people of the Himalaya regions.

  • So legendary are the load-carrying abilities of the Nepalese that the word Sherpa, a term for one of the country's ethnic groups, has become synonymous with "porter."  A typical Nepalese porter can carry a load nearly as heavy as he or she is.  They are highly regarded as expert mountaineers as well as having good physical endurance and resilience to high altitude conditions.
