GRAIN, a photography collective, started as a friendship between three like-minded photographers working at a south Florida newspaper. Through their daily assignments they relied on each other for inspiration, advice and support for developing stories and their own personal visions.

Lexey Swall, Greg Kahn and Tristan Spinski launched GRAIN in 2012 with the goal of taking control of their photographic projects, tackling stories of social and cultural consequence and being a part of a larger, inspired conversation. The photographers at GRAIN bring personal vision, enthusiasm and a diligent work ethic to every project, editorial and commercial assignment.

Clients include The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Mother Jones Magazine,, USA Today, STERN Magazine, Gente Di Fotographia, FRONTLINE/World, AARP, Chicago Tribune, Gulf Shore Life Magazine, World Vision Magazine,, Bloomberg News and The Guardian. Our work has been recognized by Pictures of the Year International, Best of Photojournalism and The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar. In 2011 Greg Kahn was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
